THE need for designated overnight camping areas for campervans and motorhomes has been fulfilled with the council identifying three suitable areas.
Signs advising of the areas have already been erected at the King Street Reserve at Campbell Town and the Falls Park Pavilion grounds at Evandale.
An area at Avoca has also been identified, and the Perth and Cressy local committees will discuss the issue.
The Ross community has not identified a need, and land adjacent to the caravan park at Longford will be managed by the park.
At the January meeting, the Northern Midlands Council discussed a draft overnight camping policy.
The draft outlines that the sites will be allocated at a minimal cost, that electricity or other services will not be offered at the sites except for a grey water dump site and a water re- filling point for vehicles.
The minimal cost is to ensure that the council complies with the National Competition Policy.
Other mentioned guidelines include:
The maximum length of stay at any one time is 48 hours, or two consecutive nights.
Use of the sites is limited to self contained vehicles that have a shower, toilet, washing, cooking and sleeping facilities and holding tanks for toilet waste. Tents are prohibited at the sites.
All vehicles must display permits on the front windscreen.
Permits will be available through a local village in the town.
