TASMANIAN landscape designer and Evandale resident Tim Barbour will share his skills on rural garden design at the Midwinter Gathering at Quamby Estate.
His workshop will discuss Tasmania's best rural gardens and provide inspiration for people who are developing gardens.
"Rural gardens have their own unique challenges, like deciding how far to move the fence out or working out who let the sheep in," Mr Barbour said.
"I'll be giving people the general concepts of landscape design, be it rural or urban, and then taking them through three case studies of rural properties with before and after photos."
He said keeping the garden suited to the era of the home was key when landscaping a rural property.
"You've got to look at what's there, invariably there's a house or buildings of some sort, and in a lot of rural places there are a lot of historic homes so you've got to be mindful that whatever garden you create fits in with the particular style of the home," he said.
The Midwinter Gathering, which will be held on Thursday, August 12, is the annual conference of the Tasmanian branch of the Australian Association of Agricultural Consultants.
A range of experts will hold workshops and present information on the day.
