 Old hands become green thumbs

Old hands become green thumbs

01 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
THE backyard at the Campbell Town Health Centre is looking mighty fine thanks to its chief gardeners.

Old friends Bruce Richardson, 88, and Kevin Rawlinson, 78, took control of the previously abandoned garden beds in November.

They now supply the centre's kitchen with fresh produce.

"We're gardeners from way back," Mr Rawlinson said.

"(Gardening is) lovely. I couldn't be cooped up in a room all day."

Mr Richardson agreed.

"I love gardening, it's great for everyone."

The men both lived in the Avoca and Rossarden region, and both worked at the Storys Creek and Rossarden mines, the latter of which closed in February 1982.

They were reacquainted when they moved into the centre.
