TWO Longford workers have been recognised for good customer service.
Rotary's Are You Being Served? competition results were announced last month.
The senior winner was Merise Lockett of Bandana Fresh Foods, and the junior category was won by Kathy Monson of Browns IGA.
Mrs Lockett attributed friendly and helpful service and good working relationships with co-workers to her win.
But her smile and hospitable laughter behind the counter surely got her a shoe in the door for the prize.
"I've got a warped sense of humour that a lot of customers know about," Mrs Lockett said.
"It is (also) about getting on with your customers, knowing what they want and a smile ... it doesn't cost a thing.
"It sounds a bit corny, but it's true."
Mrs Lockett said she was "quite shocked and humbled" when she found out she had won.
"Longford is a small town, there are a lot of great customer service people out here."
She thanked her customers for taking the time to vote for her.
Cressy District High School grade 9 student Kathy Monson has been working at Browns IGA for 12 months and was described by her manager as "a very nice young lady".
"She likes having a bit of a chat and the customers like her," manager Neville Goss said.
He said it was great to see Rotary recognising people in the local community through the awards.
"It is a very nice community thing," he said.
