CAMPBELL Town skaters have something to cheer about after the town's new skatepark was officially opened on December 4.
The skatepark was constructed after youths from the region decided something else was needed to entertain children and teenagers in the town.
The skills and spills of the skaters from the Jimmy's Skate and Street team were a highlight of the opening day celebrations.
They entertained guests with tricks and turns on the new ramp.
Locals joined in the skating fun and a barbecue was organised with the support of the Northern Midlands Council, Campbell Town Health and Community Service and Paul Jones of Campbell Town Memorial Sportsground Committee.
Northern Midlands Council deputy mayor David Downie gave the official opening speech and thanked the many people and organisations who had supported the people who originally requested the skatepark seven years ago.
The council's youth development officer, Peter Mackenzie, said the event was a great success.
He said the Campbell Town region hoped to hold a skate clinic for the young scooter riders in the new year,
"To try out some skating skills with the help of expert skaters," Mr Mackenzie said.
