THE artistic talents of Trinity College students at Poatina Village were showcased last Wednesday.
Arts Extravaganza was held at the Poatina Hall, with the community coming together to view a range of paintings, sculptures, musical and dramatic performances composed by all 45 students from kindergarten to year 12.
Principal Bruce Dutton said the school held a combined event every term, with term three focusing on the arts.
"We try to get the school community together once a term and usually that's based around sporting activities like athletics and swimming carnivals, but in third term we focus on arts," he said.
Mr Dutton said the range and quality of artistic pieces was impressive.
"One girl had taken a candle and made a lamp out of it, which was very clever and effective," he said.
Music composed by senior students was performed, as well as pieces played on the guitar, trumpet, clarinet, flute, drums, violin and voice.
Mr Dutton said the event helped students to develop confidence through performing live.
A play written and directed by grades 8-10 was performed, as well as monologues by middle school students and a clown performance by junior pupils.
"About a quarter of the school population comes from outside the village so those people come along too," Mr Dutton said.
"Trinity is a parent- involved school so we're always looking for ways to bring the community together."
