IF YOU happened to be wandering past the Police and Citizens Youth Club hall last week you might have heard the sounds of a martial art.
Up to 50 people gathered in the hall to watch a taekwondo black belt grading session, which is held every three months.
A Christmas barbecue was then held in the grounds, where adults and children took advantage of the Saturday sunshine.
Brandi-Lee Ryan, 27, of Legana, who already has her black belt, was adding her fourth stripe to her belt.
Taekwondo is a martial art originating from Korea.
Ms Ryan said participants move with their opponents using a series of kicks, punches and strikes.
It may also include take- downs or sweeps, throws and joint locks.
Ms Ryan said she got involved in taekwondo because of her wheelchair-bound brother, Damien Ryan.
She said her brother, who has been in a wheelchair all his life, had been a "massive inspiration".
"He was the first person in a wheelchair to get his black belt," Ms Ryan said.
