Youth initiative scores with grant

01 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
THE youth of the Northern Midlands have received $1800 from a government who wants them to be heard.

The Northern Midlands Council's "Youth Cafe of Music and Thought" initiative was one of 27 to receive a share in the $50,000 government funding allocated to help celebrate this year's National Youth Week.

This year's theme is "imagine, create and inspire".

Acting minister for community development David O'Byrne said over 50 applications were received.

"National Youth Week is a wonderful opportunity for young Tasmanians to have their voices heard," Mr O'Byrne said.

"These grants will help young people both inspire others and be inspired by events and activities around the community.

"These are all fantastic programs that celebrate the achievements of young Tasmanians and promote the important role they can play in our community."

Recipients included the Hobart City Council and their Youth Short Film Festival initiative and the Circular Head Council and their Youth Fest initiative.

The 2012 National Youth Week runs from April 13 to 22.

More information on the Northern Midlands initiative will be available next month.
